Physiotherapy for Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy is a neurological condition which is caused through a lack of oxygen reaching a babies brain either, during pregnancy, at the time of birth or in the first year of life. Cerebral Palsy is thought to affect 1 in 500 children however it can vary greatly in its severity and its presenting symptoms. The condition primarily affects movement and co-ordination but can also affect mental capacity. Physiotherapy has a varying role depending on the symptoms caused by the disease. However its aims will be to maximise the potential of the child through improvement in balance, movement and strength and the reduction of tone.
