Neck surgery is commonly used to help people with pain or damage caused by degeneration or trauma. The neck (cervical spine) provides many functions including protection of the spinal cord, support for the head and providing movement via the attached muscles. Following surgery movements of the neck may be limited, post-surgical pain may persist and muscles may be weak. Physiotherapy will aim to overcome these problems and help speed up recovery.
Leeds Physiotherapy’s specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapists are experts at the assessment and treatment of problems of the neck. Our comprehensive surgical service can provide you with all the care you will need before and after your operation. We are able to offer electrotherapy and acupuncture for pain relief, personalised exercise programme to restore normal muscle function and manual therapy and massage to help relieve tension and improve range of movement. Some of the more common neck surgery patients we see include:
- Decompression
- Discectomy
- Fusion
- Injection
- Laminectomy
